Hand WeightBeginning Exercisers

I specialize in working with people who either have never worked out in their lives or who are getting back into it after a long hiatus.  There are so many reasons why exercise is so important.  Looking better is only one of the hundreds of reasons why we all need to get moving.  Exercise has been proven to reduce your risk of:

  • cardiovascular disease
  • stroke
  • Type II diabetes
  • overweight/obesity
  • certain cancers (endometrial, breast, prostate, colon)
  • hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • high cholesterol
  • Asthma and other pulmonary diseases
  • Gallstones
  • Stress incontinence
  • Sleep apnea/breathing problems
  • Psychological disorders (depression)

Most people think that they have to lose massive amounts of weight in order to see any kind of health benefits. The opposite is true! Just a 5-10% decrease in your weight “decreases medical problems in 90% of obese persons resulting in improvements in heart function, blood pressure, glucose tolerance, sleep disorders, and lipid profiles, decreased requirements for medications, decreased incidence and duration of hospitalizations, and decreased post operative complications (National Institute of Health).”
Sometimes it’s hard to take that first step to get started on an exercise program.  Maybe you’ve tried by going a gym but you stopped going after the first day.   Many of my clients find that working out in the privacy of their own homes helps them stick to their routine in a way that they never could before.  What are you waiting for?  There are too many reasons why you need to start now.
